Blog: Do More
What does it take to “Do”? In this portion of our mission statement we challenge every member of the Ave. G Church of Christ to become active outside of this building. In a world pressed for time for all the wrong reasons that takes effort! I would go even further to emphasize that it takes intentional effort. To Do More is not something that will just happen as many suppose with the Big Bang Theory, it takes effort, intent, and design. God has the design we MUST apply intent and effort. So what does this look like today? Let’s delve in deeper.
Intent
One thing that must be made clear to the church is God’s intention for Christians. We will keep it very simple. God did not intend for Christians to attain salvation and keep it to themselves. We know for a fact that Jesus was obedient to the Father. And He commanded us in Matthew 28:18-20 to do something. He wants us to make disciples (students), baptize, and continue the process of teaching so that they will remain obedient. Our intent should not be to create a country club of believers who will only interact with like minded people. Our intent should not be to create the largest group. Our intent should be to teach others what we have learned, guide them towards Christ for salvation, and continue a loving relationship that will help them to be both obedient and successful in this life and the next.
Effort
None of this happens by itself. Surprisingly so many Christians believe it is only their duty to be saved. Not to relay the message of the Gospel. In order to “Do More” there must be effort involved. It is not enough to pass along folks to Bible school teachers and preachers. It is not enough to pass along to leadership when we have the ability to love people through hard times. The church is the body and if the body is stagnant it is almost as if it begins to atrophy and die. The body forgets how to build itself and how to feed itself. We must take a look within and ask ourselves if our effort is consistent and growing!
